Joni Ernst-It is an objective fact that Russia attempted to influence our election
During the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on the Mueller Report, Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) told U.S. Attorney General William Barr that no one is doubting that Russia is trying to weaken our democracy by waging a cyberattack, via a fake news campaign, on social media.
“And it is an objective fact that Russia attempted to influence our
election. We know that, folks. All of us admit to that. We see the
evidence that Russia tried to influence our election. The hacks,
the disinformation, and social media cyberattacks by Russia were
done with the intent to sow discord among the American people,”
is what Ernst said.
Ernst is right about congress and folks throughout the country knowing that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
The commander-in-chief, however, is another story. Donald Trump has consistently sided with Russia President Vladimir Putin who swears up and down that he knows nothing about nothing when it comes to the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) servers and the distribution of fake news on social media.
Let Trump tell it, it’s not Putin but some “400 pounds” hacker who stole all of the DNC’s emails and then gave them to Wikileaks to leak.
And all of this Russian hacking business, according to Trump, is due to the Democrats feeling salty about losing a winnable election.
The Democrats, however, are like, “You’re right! We would have won if you didn’t have the ‘red hand’ helping you out.”
Donald Trump siding with Vladimir Putin, every chance he gets, over the intelligence community and even the congressional Republicans is why the Democrats believe he fired former FBI Director James Comey, and why U.S. Attorney General William Barr did all of that tongue twisting about not knowing what Mueller was talking about in his letter that was a legal diss of Barr’s summary of the Mueller Report.
Joni Ernst, who is a veteran, wasn’t paying any of that ruckus any never mind, though.
She has the mindset of a soldier who understands that authoritarian leaders, like Vladimir Putin, will use guns, bombs, or bots in order to attack the countries they see as a threat to their power:
“Russia will show no hesitation. They have not in the past. They
won’t in the future in using these types of acts of aggression in
an attempt to undermine our election’s process and our way of
life. And it doesn’t matter if the attack is coming from the end of
the barrel of a gun or the click of a mouse.”
